Buying Guide
When choosing a Helmet Cam Package, You need to consider the following.
Should I purchase
A) Wirelss system
B) Wired System
A Wired System has 4 Components that you should consider.
- The Camera
- The Recording Device
- Power
- Packaging
The Camera
When choosing Your Camera ensure that it meets the needs of your sport,
If a water sport that your helmet cam is waterproof.
The TVL (TV LINES) are adequate for your needs, The higher the TVL The better quality the picture will be.
The Lux Level, Lux is linked to the light intake of the camera, the lower the lux reading the better the camera will perform in low light conditions.
The Recording Device
The camera itself does not record, it must be linked to a recording device such as a camcorder. Obvioulsy you need to choose a device that is not too large as you do not want it inhibiting your performance.
Steady State Recorders
Steady State Recorders have no moving parts and therefore are less likely to undergo reduced image quality due to vibration / motion.
Power
Most cameras require external power, this may come from an external power supply or the recorder (depending upon the type of recorder). You may choose from from traditional alkaline batteries or lithium batteries for increased performance.
Finally you will need to mount your camera and store your recording device, how it is mounted depends primarily on your sport for example mountain bikers may choose a handlebar mount, snowboarders a goggle mount and paragliders a helmet mount.
If your sport involves submersion under water, ensure you get a water tight carry case for your recorder.
Wireless systems
Generally these systems have only one component, a camera with built in recorder. These cameras generally do not offer the same quality recording as do full wired systems but offer excellent flexibility and quality for the price.
Wireless systems generally record onto a SD Card, the video can then be downloaded onto your pc later.
